Lost wax Ceramic Shell

Bronze Casting

Foundry casting and sculpture courses

Amanda from Worcestershire, UK

I enjoyed the wax working, making the Ivy leaves and spruing them onto a wax tree, finding the wax an interesting material that I had never before worked with.

During the week John poured bronze using the large foundry tilting furnace, which was a spectacle to see, one for my photo album.

When my leaves came out cast I was so pleased, I worked late into the evening trying to get the patina on them ready to leave the next day.

It was a great sunny week, that sped by and when I was not in the foundry, learning, I was outside enjoying helping out with the horses and other animals on Johns small farm, or beachcombing having a lovely time.

I found this amazing piece of wood down on a beach near to John's place and brought it back, incredibly it was ivy wood. John lightly beadblasted it clean for me.

When I got home my dutiful partner did the honours and mounted my bronze ivy leaves on to the beach found wood. This is my first sculptural artwork, I mean to go on and make lots more! Thanks John!!!
